Peer support
Peer support is, above all, intended for people who need the support of an individual with a similar disability or health condition to resolve their problems.
The purpose of the peer support service is to improve the coping skills of a person with an obstacle due to health or an employee on the basis of a long-term sick leave, and to increase his readiness, motivation and self-confidence for job searches, working life or continuing to work.
Peer support is the exchange of knowledge, experience and advice between individuals with a similar disability or health condition. The peer supporter shares its knowledge and experience that helped and/or shall help the peer supporter to cope with their disability or health condition.
You are entitled to the service if you are an employee on a long-term sick leave or have an obstacle due to your health and you are registered as unemployed or working.
You may need peer support if your health has (unexpectedly) deteriorated or you are experiencing difficulties due to a disability or health condition.
What is peer support?
- Peer support means that the peer supporter provides you with experienced emotional, social, and practical support, sharing the knowledge and experience that helped them cope in a similar situation.
- Peer support focuses on finding opportunities and solutions and enabling you to organise your life as independently as possible.
- Peer support also helps you to cope with a health problem.
- The peer supporter shares their work experience, encourages and motivates you to find or continue your work.
- If necessary, provides advice on and recommends appropriate assistive equipment and shares know-how.
