Long-term certificate of incapacity for work
On 15 May 2024, a change to the law came into effect which enables a person with a long-term certificate of incapacity for work to nevertheless work while incapacitated starting from the 61st day provided that they are ready for it and have the approval of both their doctor and employer.
Where required, you can also obtain support services and individual solutions from the Unemployment Insurance Fund from the 61st day so as to maintain your capacity for work. Clients of retirement age are also able to obtain services if needed, excluding the occupational rehabilitation service. You do not need to have your capacity for work assessed while on long-term sick leave in order to obtain services.
The following services support people in maintaining their capacity for work:
- Modifying workspaces and work equipment
- Work-related tools
- A work-related support person
- Experience counselling
- Occupational rehabilitation
- Counselling for employers to support employees with health issues
For counselling and to determine the need for services, arrange a meeting with a case manager at your nearest county office of the Unemployment Insurance Fund.
